Frequently Asked Questions

The following are common questions that our customers ask. If you don't find the answer you're looking for, get in touch! We are always happy to help.

What is the proper inflation of my tires?

  • You will find the proper tire pressure for your vehicle in several places: in your vehicle owner’s manual, on the adhesive label attached to the driver’s door frame, on the door edge or inside the glove box door. Did you know that tires lose one to two pounds of pressure each month? Check pressure regularly for safety and better fuel economy.

How do I know how much tread wear is too much?

  • When your tire treads are worn down, tires can slide more easily and hydroplane in wet conditions. Bald tires are not safe! When your tread wears down to 1/16th of an inch, or roughly the width of the top section of your vehicle radio antenna, you need new tires.
  • If your tire tread is worn unevenly across the tire, bring your vehicle in for service! Your wheels are likely out of alignment – prematurely wearing your tires, reducing fuel efficiency and posing a safety hazard.

What do I need to know about tire repair?

  • Tire repair is simple: if you have a puncture on the tread that doesn’t touch the sidewall and isn’t too big, it can safely be plugged. If it touches the sidewall, it cannot be repaired. If you have run-flat tires, punctures can often be repaired if you don’t drive too far on the flat tire.

Why do my tires wear so quickly?

If you find that your tires are wearing out more quickly than you think they should, there could be a number of reasons:

  • Rubber compound: Soft rubber wears more quickly than hard rubber. The tires used in NASCAR races are only good for one to two races because the rubber is very soft (and grips very well). Check the tread wear rating on your tires for a clue as to how long they might last.
  • Inflation: Over-inflation will wear your tires out more on the centerline, while under-inflation wears them out more on the sides.
  • Alignment: If your vehicle’s wheels are out of alignment, tires can wear unevenly and more quickly.
  • Driving style: Aggressive drivers will wear their tires out more quickly because they increase the friction between tire and road with fast acceleration, braking and cornering. To make your tires last longer, you might need to slow down!
